Rosé de Montrose 2013, Southern France
Domaine Montrose is located in Pézenas, South of France, 15 km away from the Mediterranean coast. Montrose refers to its location on a volcano (Mont) & to the pink (rose) flowers almond trees surrounding the vineyard. Founded in 1701 when actual owner’s ancestor received its three lizards coat of arms from the King of France. Family owned since then, Bernard Coste is the 11th generation in charge of Montrose’s estate. His son Olivier as joined him in 2009. The knowledge the family has gained since the vineyard was created in 1701, allows them to strive for excellence.
Right up there with the best. 90% Grenache, with the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, this has a wonderful freshness with pure strawberry flavours and an amazing length with some spice on the finish. Harvested at night to preserve freshness, gently pressed to extract the fruits’ finest flavours and fermentation is expertly controlled so that in sum they all contribute to creating the benchmark for French Rosé. If you are after something a little different to match different foods this is for you!
