Austrian Wines

Austrian wine has rapidly gained in international stature in the past decade, mostly due to the strength of the country's dry white wines (often made from the Grüner Veltliner grape). Grüner Veltliner is Austria's most distinctive and widely planted white grape that ranges stylistically from crisp and light to full and rich.

Burgenland, a long, narrow stretch of land running the length of Austria's border with Hungary is home to the majority of Austria's red wines and luscious dessert wines made around the Neusiedlersee.

Wines originate in four regions in eastern Austria: Niederösterreich, mostly west of Vienna; Burgenland, south of the capital; Steiermark, southwest; and Wien (Vienna).
